overnight train

I am planning on taking the overnight train from Paris to Rome during early July. I will be traveling with my wife and two kids (9 and 6). I%26#39;m not sure what the differences are between the 1st and 2nd class tickets and some of the options including overnight berths. any feedback would be appreciated.
