Saint Remy is just an overated village with a few things to see. Many very expensive houses with european celebrities pretending they are hiding. Prices are outrageous. look at a map. take the village of Tarascon for instance 15%26#39; away but a REAL unspoilt provencal village. One or two good hotels (Comtes de provence) one or two very good B%26amp;B (in the village la rue du chateau no pool and just outside le Mas d%26#39;Anez with pool and gardens)
Tarascon is close to Avignon (15%26#39;) worth at least 1 or 2 days visit, to Arles (At least one day) to Nimes (one day) to Uzes (On day and 40%26#39; by car) and le Pont du Gard, etc.
So why stay in Saint Rémy ? Lovely restaurants outside Saint Remy and much cheaper ( L%26#39; Ailleurs in Beaucaire)
By the way I have been spending several months in the area every year... so if you need more detailed info please ask !

tebehem, I enjoyed you input on the above post. we%26#39;re planning 5-6 days in Provence late June before going to Paris. We like the quaint small towns/villages. where would you locate as a base and which 3-4 locations would you definitely visit? we would like to do it iwthout a car, but will rent one if it makes a difference. thank you in advance.

Hi
I think if you really want to see Provence it is imperative that you hire a car.
To see the hill top villages, Gordes, Rousillion, Oppede La Coste etc it is impossible without a car. Public transport to this area is almost nil and Avignon and the large towns are not all that provence has to offer.
St Remy is not a favourite of mine but I am sure that many people would disagree with me!. There are a lot of top class B%26amp;B%26#39;s in Provence, visit avignon-et-provence.com.and look on this site It is not necessary to stay in the expensive towns.
People stay with us for a week at a time and eat with us each night, they don%26#39;t go to the same place twice...there is so much to see.
Have a great holiday!
Regards
