Novotel Montparnasse or Les Halles ??

We will be in Paris with my parents and 5 year old son and we%26#39;re looking for a clean, good hotel with a reasonable price. Is either Novotel better Montparnasse or Les Halles for families and location? Other suggestions appreciated, too.

If you are set on a Novotel I%26#39;d say the Montparnasse would be a better choice for the location.

Novotel is Novotel, anywhere worldwise!! It is my favorit 3stars hotels !

To compare %26quot;Les Halles%26quot; and %26quot;Montparnasse%26quot;:

- Les Halles is interesting if you like to walk on %26quot;typical parisian streets, close to Ile de la Cité, Le Louvres, Notre dame.

- Montparnasse is more interesting if you want to have a lot of restaurants and shops close to the hotel. It is more animated in the evening.

Montparnasse environnement could be more safe late evening (but are you going to get out very late with a 5years old ?...)

Check aswell Novotel Vaugirard. Sometimes it is less expensive (if there is not exibition on Porte de Versaille that is close to it). Nothing special there, some small shop to buy something for diner or picnic and restaurant. But the metro is 50 meters far from it.

According to your budget, if there is a big difference, it could be interesting. If no big difference, go to Les Halles or Montparnasse.

Dtomlinson, On our last visit to Paris in Feb. 07 we walked past the Novotel at Les Halles after dark and have to admit that we did not feel very safe in the area. Alot to see over there but I like it in the daytime. We allways stay in Montparnasse. Also while there a often overlooked place to visit is the Tour Montparnasse Tower. You go up to the 56th or 58th floor and have a commanding view of the city. Usually only a short line and cost around 8E

Good luck and have a great trip.

Bshigg,

You are right about your %26quot;unsafe feeling %26quot;, but I thing it is only a %26quot;feeling%26quot;. It is mainly due in dark that all shops are closed, long pedestrian streets with only a few people, etc. But don%26#39;t be scared! There is a police station not fare, and even if I said, Monparnasse could be more reassuring, Les Halles is not unsafe, especcially during summer times (dark comes late, and people go for walk late, aswell), and is much more central.

The view from Tour Monparnasse is really nice. Amazing view on Eiffel Tower. The panoramic restaurant %26quot;ciel de Paris%26quot; is nice also, with god value for money. But it will be boring for the kid. Ask Novotel if they propose Baby sitting. Sometimes they do. It could be a nice experience in the evening.
