My husband and I took our first trip to Paris a few weeks ago. I would like to extend a sincere hearfelt thanks to those of you who so patiently guided our planning experience. Your kind suggestions and patience, whether finding addresses of tablecloth shops or sports bars, was greatly appreciated.
We stayed at the Hotel Jardin De L%26#39;Odeon, a delightful small hotel on a quiet street near the Theatre de L%26#39;Odeon. It is part of the Rive Gauche group. I would suggest going to their website: www.hotels-paris-rive-gauche.com for amazing photo-journals and articles on Paris. The location was superb - near the Luxembourg Gardens, St. Suplice, St. Germain, the Latin Quarter, the Metro, the Pantheon, and an easy walk to the Notre Dame area.
It goes without saying that we were awestruck by the famous sights of Paris. Those of you who have been there know what I mean, so I won%26#39;t say any more about that, except that every day was a gift. The Parisians have given the world a gift of history and beauty that is fabulously beautiful.
A few highlights of our trip: the French Onion soup and the Mussels at the Horse%26#39;s Tavern, (near our hotel) which soothed a very jet lagged couple, the first glimpses of (fill in the blank - EVERYTHING WAS AMAZING AT THE FIRST GLIMPSE...BREATHTAKING!) , the shop windows were remarkable whether shoe shops, cheese shops, pastry shops, produce, etc, A fabulous salad of goat cheese and lovely greens and roasted figs (restaurant with colorful furniture, down the sort-of-hidden steps to the left of Sacre Coeur when your back is to the church)..and those steps were worthy of a classic French postcard.
And speaking of Churches! The churches in Paris are gems of soaring stained glass and history. We never passed one without stopping in.
I had a mental list of food that I needed to try: pains au chocolat, croissants, escargot, rhubarb tarte, moules, duck, terraines and pates, traditional veal stews and coc au vin, blue cheese fondue, and so on - clicked them off one by one. Fabulous! Didn%26#39;t gain a pound due to the walking too.
My husband especially enjoyed the Moosehead Bar, also near our hotel, which had the North American Sports Network. He was able to watch his Ohio State Buckeyes in the NCCA tournament, which was on at 9:30 pm Paris time one night. It was a good rest for him.
We experienced just about every thing we hoped to, but of course have another list started of what else we wish to do on our next trip to Paris. There is definitely an addictive quality to the lovely Paris..it grabs you and won%26#39;t let you go.

I mean...Your advice was Priceless...a little spelling error there..

So glad to hear you had such a magical trip. Now you%26#39;re hooked like the rest of us!

I am so hooked,....already planning another trip to Paris...

Looks like your hotel was in an excellent location. Very nice website you included. I liked the Blvd. San Michel area around the Jardin du Luxembourg--the cafes along there had a nice look although we did not have a chance to eat there.

Enjoy making that list. For those of us who have fallen in love with Paris, it%26#39;s impossible to settle for only one trip, right?

It is always so nice to read the reports of firsttimers because they are beaming with happiness and that special tone of %26quot;EVERYTHING-WE-SAW-WAS-AMAZING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!%26quot; - that really makes me glad and gives me the good feeling of %26quot;told-you-so%26quot; !!
%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt; (restaurant with colorful furniture, down the sort-of-hidden steps to the left of Sacre Coeur when your back is to the church)..and those steps were worthy of a classic French postcard.%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;
These steps would be Rue Maurice Utrillo and your restaurant down on the pitturesque square would be %26quot;L%26#39;été en pente douce%26quot; - if anyone else should be interested.

Hi mich-noto, I agree about the churches. They are fascinating, historical, and architecurally beautiful. As for the Moosehead it%26#39;s a fun, relaxing place especially for televised sporting events as you discovered.
Glad to read your nice trip report and hope you return to Paris soon again.

If you sign up for the monthly newsletter on the Rive Gauche site, they send you very interesting and well done pieces. One I particularly enjoyed this fall concerned bee keeping on the top of the Eiffel Tower.
I am very sincere in saying that our trip would have been just a shadow of what it was without the TA knowledge, hints, tips, and enthusiasms. Thanks again.
