We want to visit Nice and Cannes this August. We are traveling from NYC and, not surprisingly, trans-Atlantic airfares are very, very high. We can, however, get a somewhat %26quot;cheaper%26quot; ticket to Frankfurt.
So, any suggestions on the best way from Frankfrut to Nice? I looked at some train schedules but I didn%26#39;t find much information. What I did find seemed to show that it would be about ten hours or so. Yikes.
Alternatively, does anynoe know a discount air carrier that might fly this route?
Thanks.

Lufthansa - I was forced to fly this route when cancelled by British Airways. It was very comfortable. God knows what it cost scheduled.

Thank you.
It does seem like Lufthansa is the way to go. Prices seem all over the map, from cheap to very expensive. The train is just way too long. I am hoping the cheap flights are %26quot;real.%26quot; I can book in the next few days. Thank you.

I just ran a quick check on mobissimo.com for a RT from NYC using random dates in August. I%26#39;m seeing fares to Paris (CDG) about the same as to FRA, ~$650 which is an astonishingly good fare for peak summer travel.
From Paris to Nice is about a 6 hour train trip with advance purchase fares as low as 70€ RT, very occasionally lower. You could also check RT air fares on EasyJet or Air France.

Wow, thank you.
Frankly, I didn%26#39;t focus much on non-stops to CDG, thinking they were the same price as some other European capitals, which are mostly running in the $1,000+ range for August. I found NYC-CDG for about $730 return, and I will look around a bit more. NYC-Nice non stop is about $1,200.
Singapore Air has NYC-Frankfurt for about $770 and that was the best fare I had found so far, with a good airline. I think the CDG destination would make more sense for us. And, atlhough I can actually get cheap flts from Frankfurt to Nice, the connections with the Singapore flight are bad. The return flight to NYC leaves Frankfurt at about 8 a.m. and there%26#39;s no way to get to Frankfurt from anywhere else early enough that morning to catch the NYC bound flight. Thus, we would need to stay over night in Frankfurt.
Thanks.

You%26#39;re welcome!
You may well have to spend a night in Paris on your return journey if you do travel that way. You need to allow a minimum of three hours to deal with check-in and security at CDG. (It sometimes takes a lot less but it%26#39;s not a chance you want to take.)
Since you will not be through-ticketed you will get short shrift from your trans-Atlantic airline if your flight from Nice is delayed and you miss your flight to NYC, whatever the reason.
Bon voyage!
