5 Days in Cannes

My husband and I are spending 5 days in Cannes at the beginning of May before leaving on a cruise out of Nice. We are staying at the Carlton. Any suggestions for restaurants that have character or may be out of the way? This is our first trip to France together and I%26#39;d appreciate any advice on what we shouldn%26#39;t miss when we%26#39;re there.

Consider a thirty minute excursion by boat from the old port to the iles de Lerins. to escape the rather relentless commercial side of Cannes. The near island Ste Margueritte is probably the more popular but I prefer Ile St Honnorat, the smaller. Its beautifully peaceful , with a very picturesque abbey, and takes little more than an hour to walk the circumference of the sea shore.

Thanks, Nicelife. Could you also recommend any good local restaurnats to eat at? Nothing fancy, just someplaces that people who live in Cannes go to eat that%26#39;s inexpensive but has regional flair?

I%26#39;m still looking for the same, so far without much luck. A few places I have tried were indifferent and expensive - a lot of people here are on business expenses, and restauranteurs know it.

I can honestly recommend Mr Cresci%26#39;s Pizza opposite the old port - don%26#39;t be put off by the %26quot;pizza%26quot; label - Cresci has been honoured for services to the food industry and its a league above the usual.

The quest continues

Hello.

I have written several postings on the IHINCHLIFFE thread , which figures on the same page as your thread today ...

they concern various places in Cannes. I hope that they will be of interest.

We spent a day in Cannes and popped into a local bookshop to buy a map. The lady there was really lovely and when we asked her where to go for lunch she had no hesitation in recommending L%26#39;Ardoise. I wish I could remember what she told us, I think it was a very new restaurant and the chef was from a famous restaurant or Hotel, anyway, we tried it and it was really great, prices were pretty respectable too. The portions are not large and the set menu was the best option. Try and order off the French menu - the english version was translated by a computer programme I think and although funny it was a bit off-putting. L%26#39;Ardoise is on rue Rouguiere in Cannes, not far from the festival building at the west end of Cannes. Tel: 04 93 39 09 02. I found the receipt, luckily. We would eat there again. There%26#39;s an outside shaded terrace away from the main road, nice location and good service.
