We wil be taking a train from Paris to Epernay in the Champagne region on a Monday morning. There will be 5 of us. Do I need to book tickets on-line in advance or can I just wait till I%26#39;m in Paris? It will be an early morning departure returning the same afternoon. Thanks!

I%26quot;ve taken that train many times and always buy the ticket when I get to the station. You might not all get seats together, but you probably will...I think there%26#39;s a train almost every hour that goes out there...

I have heard on this forum, courtesy of Irishrover, I believe, that the SNCF have a new train service to Reims. Some of the fares are only Euro 10 as a special deal at present. Some of the trains also travel via Epernay.
Pre-booking, availing yourself of this special price, may save you some dollars, if that is of interest to you.

Yes, there are 10€ advance purchase fares on the new TGV trains to Reims that go into service on June 10. However these trains will not take you to Épernay. It would be possible to take a train to Épernay, spend the morning there and then head to Reims on a local train (~30 min). Then you could take the TGV back to Paris, a 45 minute trip.
I don%26#39;t know at this point exactly where the new TGV station for Reims is located. If it is like a number of other intermediate stops on TGV lines such as Avignon and Tours it may be a short distance outside the city and connected to it by a shuttle bus.
Getting back to the original question, I%26#39;m fairly sure all the trains between Paris and Épernay are local %26quot;Ter%26quot; trains and do not have reserved seating. There are also no advance purchase discounted fares on such trains. The only reason for pre-booking would be for the convenience of avoiding having to wait in the line at the ticket window. You could go to any SNCF %26quot;boutique%26quot; in Paris to buy your tickets before your travel date. One of these may be convenient to your hotel. Here is a list: http://tinyurl.com/y97we9
Bon voyage!

My wife and I are heading to Paris May 9th and I reserved a tour at Veuve in Reims for Saturday the 12th. I checked the SNCF website and booked, paid for and printed my tickets on the spot. Toal fare for reserved seat, 2nd class non-changeable tickets was 44e total for the two of us. The train leaves Gare Est at 11:30, we have a 2:00 tour and return back to Paris on the 6:30 train. For this rate, and convenience- I don%26#39;t see the reason not to buy now.
