Ryanair to US?

There is an article in the Boston Globe business section today about Ryanair possibly flying between Europe and the US soon. Confirmation calls weren%26#39;t returned so there isn%26#39;t much information. It was reported that they would fly to alternative airports, for instance, Providence, RI instead of Boston. A flight from Dublin to NYC might be as little as 10E or $13.45. Imagine that. We%26#39;ll all be in Paris every weekend:) The link is:

I think Ryanair might have to pay me to spend eight hours in one of their planes. Not that I haven%26#39;t flown with them in the past, nor that I wouldn%26#39;t in the future, but EIGHT HOURS??? In any case since this apparently would involve the launch of a new airline by the infamous Michael O%26#39;Leary, I%26#39;m not holding my breath.

Aer Lingus is planning to expand its service in the US in the not too far distant future, possibly as soon as this fall, and there are other changes afoot in the trans-Atlantic market.

That story was in the UK papers today as well. Now the skys are open (allegedly) then I wondered how long Michael O%26#39;Leary would wait.

This will be fantastic news if it comes off. I don%26#39;t see how anyone can complain about Ryanair. No frills, sure, but they have the newest fleet of any airline, have done more to bring down flight prices and have opened up the possibilities of visiting places in Europe most people would never have dreamed of visiting.

I use Ryanair often and have never been let down by them which is more than I can say for BA.

Let%26#39;s hope it happens!

There will probably be very few seats available at the lowest prices on each flight. And of course even if you are %26quot;lucky%26quot; enough to get a really low price you will still have to add taxes, baggage charges if you dare to take more than carry on luggage plus anything else they can dream up to charge you for.

Can you tell I am not a big ryanair supporter?!

£7 plus how much %26quot;fees%26quot; %26quot;taxes%26quot; and charges? As you can get returns to NYC from london for £250(ish) at the moment, all fees included, I cannot see Ryanair being any cheaper, except for maybe the 1 seat per flight the sell for £7 plus taxes etc.

Although I must admit, of the 8 Ryanair flights I took last year, one of them was on time. Which is better than the year before - so maybe there is hope for them. The seatbelt was bolted in back to front though (quite common on ryanair, in my experience)

Zoom airlines service to NYC is new. It%26#39;s another British discount carrier.

|||

Zoom Airlines are actually a Canadian airline based in Ottawa although they recently launched a UK operation at Gatwick which will commence flights this summer.

I know people who have flown from Scotland to Canada on Zoom and they speak highly of the service.

%26gt;%26gt;%26gt; Zoom airlines service to NYC is new. %26lt;%26lt;%26lt;

For reasons having to do with some stupid government regulation US residents cannot book Zoom%26#39;s flights from NYC to Gatwick. I do not know if you can book these flights if you %26quot;pretend%26quot; to be a resident of Canada. Anybody else know?

(I suspect this nonsense will disappear with the %26quot;Open Skies%26quot; policy if that ever actually becomes reality. Zoom may be getting its foot in the door in anticipation of just that.)
