I booked a weekend in Paris over the Jly 14th weekend.I am now concerned about whether shops restaurants museumns etc open normally on that day and if they do whether everything is very crowded and busy. Also is it harder to get around.I could easily rebook the trip for the previous weekend at this point.Advice please. Thanks

Well , 14th of july is french national day , so it is holiday : public offices and many shops are closed , but most touristic attractions , museums, restaurants etc.. are open . The public transports work , but with holiday frequency .
In the other hand , it is a special day with a big parade on the Champs elysees in the morning (military parade, sorry) , many popular night dancefloors and music in the streets , and great fireworks ..
in conclusion , it is a very special day , and in my opinion a very good experience to live it .

If you live in London, you can pop over to Paris very easily, so if I were you, I would certainly go over an experience La Fête Nationale !
Paris is ONE big party that day - and the evening before there are parties all over the city, including some very hefty ones arranged by the firemen - reputedly the hottest men in town !
There is one around Place St.Sulpice.
Getting around is not harder - because in Paris you will be walking most of the time anyway. Most of the streets leading down to Champs Elysées will be packed with policemen - and there may be some re-directions. Also the metrostations under Champs Elysées are closed on the 14th. (Security reasons).
Crowded ? Yes, very - but in the most charming %26quot;gay pawee%26quot; fashion. And I do not mean gay as opposed to heterose*ual, but as opposed to dull.......
