Inexperienced flier with a few questions...

I don%26#39;t fly much at all and I have no idea how transfering flights works.

We%26#39;re leaving USA and landing in Iceland. Then switching planes to head to CDG. Do we have to get our luggage or will they transfer it?

Do we check in again?

Then, once we land at CDG, we are switching from Iceland Air to Air France and heading to Rome for a few days before our trip to Paris. Do we just look at a map of the airport and find the terminals then walk?

Also, I assume we go through customs in both Iceland and at CDG as soon as we arrive, correct?

I might not be able to answer all your questions but i%26#39;ll give it a go. CDG can be a pain. Plan on 45 mins or more to get between terminals. Get yourself familiar with it by going to any number of sites. I just googled CDG and one site that might be helpful to you is bonjourlafrance.net. Go to the %26quot;Air Travel%26quot; section and click on %26quot;All About Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport%26quot;. On the left hand side you find %26quot;shuttles between CDG terminals%26quot;. Click on that and you%26#39;ll see the schedule. You won%26#39;t walk, you%26#39;ll ride a bus. As for when you need to collect your luggage I would call the airline you%26#39;re travelling on and ask what city you will collect your luggage in and what city you will go through customs in. It will depend on how your ticket was written. Mass to Rome or a couple separate tickets. When I%26#39;ve travelled to Paris I went through customs in Paris as I never left the secured area at CDG. Someone else on this forum is undoubtedly more informed and I%26#39;m hoping by bumping your question back to the front of the line they will add to my answer. Sounds like you have a great trip planned have a great time.

Normally with a connecting flight you will not get your luggage it is transferred automatically, but now, with 9/11 etc. sometimes you do go to a special area and claim your luggage ,, you don%26#39;t take it back through customs though, you just say%26quot; yup, thats mine%26quot; and it is then sent on.

you will not go through customs in Iceland.

double check when you check in to your flight in Massachusetts.

Transferring flights is very easy. Check with both airlines before flying and ask them what to expect. Once your traveling you can always ask the flight attendants or go to a customer service booth at the airport.

You’ll get off your plane in Iceland and transfer to the next plane and the airline company will transfer your luggage. You may have to go through a security check point and then head to the next terminal for your 2nd leg of the trip. You will need to have another plane ticket for this leg before boarding the plane.

I don’t believe you will need to neither transfer your own luggage in Iceland nor go through customs because Iceland is not part of the EU.

In Paris, I believe you’ll have to go through customs because it’s your entry point into the EU. This has happened to me before in the past.

If not you just transfer in Paris (be careful not to get lost because the airport is HUGE) and then in Italy go through customs.

Do you have one ticket for your entire trip or is your Air France ticket completely separate from your Icelandair ticket?

How much time do you have between flights in Paris?

Do you know which terminal your Icelandair flight arrives at? And which one your AF flight leaves from? If you do not, see if you can get the information from the airlines or your Travel Agent. Some transfers in CDG can be a bit tricky and time-consuming and there are thre completely separate terminals. Get back to us with the time of your CDG arrival and departure and the terminals when you have that info so we can help you with figuring out how to get from your arrival gate to your departure area.

Meanwhile you might do some playing around on:

Thanks for all your help!

Here are more details:

Arrive at CDG at Terminal 1 at 1:05pm

On a seperate ticket, leaving from CDG at Terminal 2F at 4:05pm

Also, another question...how do we use electronic tickets? Do I just print out the email they send me and bring that to the airport to show them when we check in?
