We stayed the first week in March and were very happy with the apartment at 7 Rue St. Jacques (5th) from Vacationinparis.com. (This is their apartment #100.)
It was an excellent bargain at $120 per night. Everything about the apartment was average or above at well below average price. For a cost conscious Paris visitor, this is an unbeatable value. We loved the amount of room, even though it was a studio. We have stayed in Paris hotel rooms at twice the price or more that one could touch 3 or 4 walls from the bed. Not here. Even the shower was not as small as some we have tried to use. Everything is modern, clean and functional.
There is broadband internet service provided. I just plugged the cable under the phone table into a laptop%26#39;s Ethernet port and I was on the net, no configuring necessary.
I loved getting up in the morning, starting the coffee maker and going out for croissants and a baguette so my wife could join me for breakfast when I got back. The boulangerie is less than two short blocks away.
This is a great neighborhood for being in the center of Left Bank tourism--right on the edge of the 5th and 6th arrondisements, as described in the company%26#39;s web page. It is also fair to say that this little area between Rue St. Jacques and Blvd. St. Michel is not typical of the 5th or the 6th. It is a small area of dense tourist shops and restaurants. Walk a block or two in any direction and one is out of the that area and into areas more typical of the 4th, 5th and 6th.
As with many older Parisian buildings without elevators, on has to prepared to handle stairs--44 from the courtyard to the door of the apartment. They are narrow, tapering, old and one of them--number 17 from the bottom, we call it the trickster--is domed, rocking you off balance if you are not ready for it.
The experience of using Vacation in Paris is superb. They made it easy to get the information, execute the transaction, and feel confident and cared for, even if the whole transaction is by email. The day before we left, I called for the first time to see if additional information was available. I again felt like the Vacation in Paris people cared about what they were doing, were knowledgeable, and were sincerely interested in our having a great time.

Thanks for posting the review. I took a look at the studio, and it looks really good.
I%26#39;ve also booked with them for my trip in October, and so far, all communications have been ideal.

Hello, and thanks for your post. I have that same apartment rented for the week between Christmas and New Year%26#39;s. I have used VIP several times before, so I knew they are a good company and have no qualms about renting from them again. After reading your post, I am twice as excited about the trip. Thanks again.

How far was it from this apartment to some of the main attractions in Paris? ie the Louvre, Eiffel Tower, etc. Just trying to get an idea of distance!! Thanks :)
|||
All easy strolls. 10 to ET; 15-20 to Louvre. The problem with giving times is that you see so much on the way to stop and look at, that it takes twice as long as it might otherwise. Very enjoyable way to spend time tho:)

I like the look of that apartment. Did you use the washer dryer? Did the Tv get any English speaking channels? I%26#39;m a little worried that the stairs might get to be a pain. We are 50 somethings.

Suzanne, that%26#39;s the apt I%26#39;ve rented for Dec of this year. At first, I was groaning at the thought. But now, I%26#39;m hoping that the 40 steps will help burn those pesky eclair calories off.
|||
I just worked out the price for the apt... In Canadian including all the damage waivers, surcharge (we%26#39;re only going for three nights), etc it comes to about $187 per night. For this location in Paris is that pretty reasonable? Keeping in mind that%26#39;s CDN funds (US would be about $164)
|||
Yes, IMO, it%26#39;s fine. Consider that you are also paying the surcharge for less than 5 nights. I%26#39;m paying $120 per night, but that%26#39;s for five nights.
