Am interested in taking a boat down the river our first night in Paris...Any suggestions as to which might be the better ones?
I have checked the web and so many seem to be really large capacity. I would prefer not to be part of a large crowd...something small and intimate, with open decks.........
We are not interested in dining on the the boat. Just being outside and enjoying the view .
Merci,
susan

We%26#39;ve gone on the huge Bateaux Mouches, and also the smaller Vedettes de Pont Neuf and Bateaux Parisien.
Though you might expect the smaller boats to be more %26quot;intimate%26quot;, they are - but not in a good way. Seats are closely set in rows on the open upper deck, with just a narrow aisle down the middle. You really cannot wander about outside. And, it%26#39;s often difficult to see/take photos with other standing up for photo ops. If there%26#39;s a really rowdy group on your trip, you cannot get away from them.
On the huge Bateaux Mouches, however, there are several levels and plenty of room to wander all over where there is no seating, especially at the back of the boat, and, better, at the front of the boat. They are not usually very full.
Best is to plan your departure just before sunset so you leave in the daylight, enjoy dusk and twilight, and return in the dark when the lights have been turned on all over.
Whichever boat you take, be sure to have tissues in your pocket for the rest room, as they are often out of paper.

That sounds like sound advise! I will have to check on the %26#39;weather%26#39; pages to see when sunset is for the 1st week of June to plan my timing.
thanks,

I preferred the Vedettes du Pont Neuf. There is also a coupon on their website- so you save a few pennies too....
Here is the site http://www.vedettesdupontneuf.com/

I too prefer the smaller and cosier Vedettes du Pont Neuf. i have never felt overcrowded on them though I have been on one or two that were quite full. I find the volume level of the commentary on the larger boats annoying — and that is just when passing them on the riiver while fravelling in the opposite direction on the smaller, cosier and quieter (though not exactly quiet) Vedettes. I have never been disturbed by crowds of rowdies on the VduPN though I suppose it could happen. I have seen the huge Bateaux Mouches packed with people. They tend to make me think of some kind of strange futuristic beach assault landing craft...
I also greatly prefer the embarcation point of the VduPN. The tip of the Île de la Cité has a special charm all its own — and some great places to visit and/or stop for a meal., a drink or a coffee nearby. (See the other current thread on the VduPN for more...)

I did bookmark a web page about that smaller ship awhile back. That%26#39;s why I am looking for some input. I much prefer the quiet, and the boarding point sounds charming....2 good points for the smaller vessel!
