We are going to Paris, London and Venice/Rome. We%26#39;ll be using larger watt items such as hair dryer and iron, as well lower ones, such as portable DVD player recharger and a clock. We know we need a voltage converter for the hair dryer and iron.... but the post I read said that all we need is a plug adaptor for the low wattage items because over there, their wattage is already low. Is that true? The last thing I want to do is be %26quot;the American that blew out the power in the Hotel Valadon!%26quot; Meanwhile, Any recommendations as to the best brand? OH! And someone said I need a Grounded Plug for Italy - is that true? Thanks bunches! Anna

If your device has a label that says %26quot;100-240v%26quot; , %26quot;110-230v%26quot;or something like that, you only need a plug adapter, not because %26quot;over there, their wattage is already low%26quot; - this statement makes no sense.

Please use the search box above the posts on the right and the keyword converter. You might need to do a second search for adapter. There have been many threads on this topic and you need to do a bit of reading.
Just a bottom line here...
If you *must* take high wattage items such as hair dryers etc. find dual voltage ones and take those. If you can%26#39;t do that then buy what you need when you get to Europe. Makes sure your other items — clock, DVD player, recharger, are dual voltage. Usable converters are bulky, heavy and expensive — and do not necessarily work all that well in any case.
You will need *adapters* (not converters) for any item, dual voltage or not, that ha a US plug.

If you travel abroad with any regularity this site might come in handy: http://www.110220volts.com/
I bought from them - reasonably priced, good service.
