Wineries

We will be spending a week in Sarlat and would like to visit some wineries that feature Bordeaux type wines--are there any regions that may be closer than St Emilion or Bordeaux. We will have a car for transport and a railpass--we are looking for day trips and not overnight stays.

The area around Bergerac has wineries and is closer than St.Emilion. I haven%26#39;t gone to these, but they are recommended by a guidebook: Chateau de la Jaubertie and Domaine de l%26#39;Ancienne Cure, both near Colombier. Pecharment wines are from that area also.

There%26#39;s also the Chateau Monbazillac just south of Bergerac. It produces a sweet white wine similar to Sauternes. For a heartier red wine, you could go to Cahors and visit Chateau Lagrazette (www.chateau-lagrezette.tm.fr). Cahors is worth a day trip for the Grotte de Peche Merle, Pont Valentre and the WWII Resistance museum anyway.

There is usually a man with a good selection of wines at the Sarlat Saturday market, so you can get an idea of what%26#39;s available. Also, I believe Cahteau LaGrezette still has a shop in Sarlat.
