Skateboarding in Paris

My 15-year-old son is very anxious to skateboard in Paris. I%26#39;ve read in previous postings that skateboarding is allowed by the Trocadero, but in the several times I%26#39;ve been to Paris I only recall seeing a couple of skateboarders.

Does anyone know where else skateboarding is permitted (or just as important, where it is forbidden?) Other than the usual rules of common courtesy that I expect him to follow no matter where he goes (watching out for pedestrians, staying out of traffic, being mindful of when the noise is bothering people), are there other Parisian %26#39;rules of the road%26#39; that he should be observing?

Thanks!

I see skate boarders all of the time at Place Bastille on the elevated area above the canal across the street from the Opera. Sometimes they are also in front of the Louvre across Rue de Rivoli along with in-line skaters.

We%26#39;ve seen lots of skate boarders by the Trocadero. If you cant find out ahead of time, why not start there and ask them where else?

|||

Thanks to both of you !

DLK, why didn%26#39;t I think of that common-sense solution of asking the Trocadero skateboarders where else they like to go? It seems like the skateboarders all speak the same universal language, so I bet Andrew will have no problems making friends in a new %26#39;neighborhood%26#39; across the pond! I only hope he agrees to come back home with me after a week of skateboarding in Paris!

Now that may be a different question altogether! : )

My son is afflicted with the same problem. Here is a website he has looked at: www.paris-skate-culture.org/v2/accueil.php…

It is in French, but it might be a way for him to start dreaming. La Defense is a little out of the way, but has lots of stair sets and other such things.

|||

When, this is fantastic!!

I%26#39;m happy the site is in French - it%26#39;s good motivation for him to start picking it up a little, especially since teenagers are much more likely to try out a new language than we adults are.

I%26#39;m also quite happy to see that the skateboarders in Paris do NOT feel compelled to have long hair~! I%26#39;m sure my son will roll his eyes at me when I point that out to him.

Hi Hat Lady

I also have a teenager who is a fantatical skateboarder and always takes his with him when we travel.

Last year when we travelled was the first time he could not take it on as carry-on luggage on the plane (SQ out of Australia). We had to go back and check it in as ordinary luggage at the last minute and when we colllected our cases at CDG - it took absolutely forever to come out (at least 30 minutes after the last bag came out) and unfortuntely it was a little worse for wear.

I don%26#39;t know if you%26#39;ll have the same restrictions, but I would find out and if it is the case, get your son to package it really well.

Enjoy the holiday!

Hi I went to paris the year before last with my brother and a few of his friends who did some skaeing while there. They%26#39;re favourite spot wasn%26#39;t the trocedero but really near it, i can%26#39;t exactly remeber where it was now, i think if yyou go right from trocadero (with the eiffel tower behind you) and walk for about 300 yards, there%26#39;s a flat space with lots of grouped steps at the sides that is appaently great, and on one of the skate videos...? But i couldn%26#39;t tell you which! plenty of good spots though! i%26#39;ll try and get more details for you next tiem i see him....

I took two 17 year old skateboarders to paris in March and they had a great time. They disassembled their boards and put them into one suitcase along with the trucks in a separate bag. It was a bit heavy, but just snuck in under the weight limit!

The day we arrived we went from the Latin Quarter to the Eiffel tower along the seine. They boarded..... I walked. It was a gorgeously warm day, and several of the roads were closed to cars, so they were able to do some boarding down some long roads near Pont Alexandre. Mind you, they did finally collapse for an hour once we got to the Tower!

Other than that, they went out daily for a few hours and really explored the central area of Paris on their boards. I don%26#39;t think they had any troubles finding spots to go and no one seemed to mind them riding around.

they used the same website

www.paris-skate-culture.org/v2/accueil.php…

and translated it with this website

http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/tr

to find spots to skateboard.
