Hotel recommendation for 1 night?

I will be spending one night in Paris in June. I arrive at Charles de Gaulle early in the morning on Monday, and will be flying out of Paris Orly the next morning.

Can someone recommend a suitable and reasonably priced hotel for a single traveller in Paris. I would like one that is convenient to public transport to/from the two airports, but which is central enough that I can explore the tourist sites during the day? Is staying near Montparnasse a good idea? (although I%26#39;m open to suggestions).

My budget is 150 euros or less. Any help will be appreciated!

Hi Red Turtle

Try ArrowCapet%26#39;s favourite Hotel de Suez which is near St Michel station on RER line B that serves both CDG and Orly. It is in your price range

...but RER-B doesn%26#39;t connect directly with Orly...

I think Montparnasse is a good choice because you could utilize the Air France coaches for both airports. Line 4 from CDG and Line 1 (I think) to Orly. Also, metro/bus connections for getting around Paris are very good there.

Hotel Lenox Montparnasse on rue Delambre is getting good reviews... also Hotel Edouard VI on blvd Montparnasse...

Hi travelnutty,

The RER goes to Antony and you just cross the platform to take the Orly Val to Orly, so in that sense it is direct. The beauty of staying near St Michel on a single night stay is that you can walk to the Seine in 5 minutes and around the latin quarter and across to the islands and the Marais if you wish, whereas Montparnasse is much less central

I knew you had to %26#39;transfer%26#39; but didn%26#39;t know if it was bothersome or not.. sounds good.

Is another good alternative to stay by Saint Michel, take RER-B to Denfert-Rochereau and then take the Orlybus?

Hi Travelnutty, I think the RER B to Antony and Orly Val is the easiest apart from a taxi all the way. Coming from the centre you step off the RER on one side of the platform and walk about 5 metres to the Orly Val on the other side. The Orly Val services are both frequent and fast (fun too if you stand near the front so you can see the rail it runs along). The price with the RER ticket from the centre is 9.10 Euros so if the OP had been travelling in a group of 3 or more a taxi would only be a bit more, as the usual range is around 30 to 35 Euros to the centre.

Thanks for your suggestions! I might try the Orly val at Antony.

Hi Red Turtle

It is in some ways similar to but much more fun than the Sydney monorail if you go to the front section because it is so fast and you can see this single suspended rail ahead as you whiz along for just a few minutes - not sure but I think it might be like the Japanese %26quot;trains%26quot; that %26quot;hover%26quot; over the rail. I think it is worth it just for the experience plus the RER + Orly Val is very fast.

Hi Red Turtle

2 things occurred to me on re-reading your original post and our replies.

First, what time does your flight leave the next morning? Check the amount of time you must allow for check in (ie international flight, within EU, domestic) to make sure that the RER will be running at the time you need to leave - if not splash out on a taxi.

Secondly, if the RER + Orly Val is OK timewise, make sure you buy an RER + Orly Val combined ticket at St Michel or other originating RER B station as that combination is 9.10 Euros (and do specify Orly Val). If you bought an RER B ticket to Antony (not sure of the price) and then bought the Orly Val ticket at Antony, I think the Orly Val to Antony alone is about 7.50 Euros!!!

Thanks, Faux, you%26#39;ve been most helpful! I am flying from Orly to Oslo on a 09:35 flight. So I should be able to get the RER, I expect. Do you know how long the trip from St Michel to Orly would take on the RER + Orly Val?

Hi Red Turtle

I know the metro starts at around 5.30 am and assume the RER B does too, I have never had an early flight out so am not sure of the details but this site suggests once you board the RER B it is about 30 - 35 minutes to get to Orly via RER B to Antony and then Orly Val

aeroportsdeparis.fr/Adp/…

The Orly Val starts at about 6am and I know it is timed to allow you to cross the platform from the RER B train to the Orly Val. If no-one else can give you a definitive timetable for the RER B from St Michel Notre Dame to Antony, I think it best that you ask at St Michel Station when you arrive so you can ensure you are at Orly in time for the check in for your flight. Allow a little extra time than you would think necessary to cover any mistakes or delays.

BTW, which hotel are you staying in and which night is your Paris %26quot;stopover%26quot;? I hope you have a great time walking around the centre near St Michel Notre Dame station that night.
