Chateau Tours

We will be staying in the Loire at The Domaine de Beauvois for 3 nights in June. I would like some advice on whether to book a tour to the major chateaux or to drive ourselves and get audio guides at the chateaux

Also can any recommend a reliable but not too expensive tour guide and should I pre-book or book when I arrive?

The countryside is so beautiful I would definitely drive. Even if you get somewhat lost the time is not wasted because there is always something interesting to see. When I was in the region I didn%26#39;t have the best of maps and still managed to get around easily. The biggest problem I remember was finding exactly where to exit from small towns. It has been some years since I toured the area but arriving on time for a guided tour was not a problem then since there were groups always leaving fairly frequently. We booked nothing in advance, nor did we use any audio guides. If there was a wait, we roamed around the grounds.
