Corsica

Hello, we are going to Nice for 5 days in September and we would like to catch a ferry to Corsica and spend one night there - could anyone let me know whether this can be done and also any recommendations on hotels- we would like to be able to see a bit of Corsica but we will not have a car so would be using public transport. Thanks

Well personally I would not do this. Corsica deserves much more than a quick visit and public transport is far from ideal to see any of the island. Even on the %26quot;busy%26quot; bus routes there are only 2 to 4 buses daily.

Having said that, it is possible to visit Calvi, L%26#39;ile Rousse or Ajaccio from Nice. The first two are the best if you like small resorts with beaches. Both are compact enough to walk around. Ajaccio town has no beaches within walking distance but the town is quite interesting - you can%26#39;t fail to notice that it is the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte!

If you still wish to go, I%26#39;d opt for Calvi on the quick NGV vessel.

I agree with aardwalk10: don%26#39;t.

Corsica deserves more time- e.g. next time in the area.

Thank you for your replies they are very helpful - other than the obvious places to visit such as Monaco from Nice , do you have any other suggestions of what to see in and around Nice?

Five days in Nice alone is not much. It%26#39;s a city with a rather unique collection of architecture. You can stroll around. There are guided tours every day to places of more particular interest. There%26#39;s a closed loop bus tour around. There are museums and botanical gardens, churches and markets. Plus everything related to beach %26amp; sea. You may make a day trip by train to San Remo. That s your Italy. Menton on the french side of the border is cute. Eze is spectacular. Villefrance, Beaulieu and the Cap Ferrat peninsula spledid and well worth a visit. West of Nice more yet. Haut-de-Cagnes, antibes, Biot, Cannes, Mougins, Grasse.

Plus alot also in the back country. I wouldn%26#39;t make up too many plans in advance but rather just come here, then deciding from hour to hour what to do.

Thank you very much - thats very helpful

Its really not worth traveling to Corsica for one night, getting there and back to Nice on the ferry would take a big chunk out of your break. Its about 8hrs each way.

Corsica is worth a trip on its own merits, very beautiful island. A photographers dream.
