If you were having a 3-4 weeks in France what parts would you visit to experience the country?

we are planing a trip and would like your help. We are into food ,wine and culture.

It will be a one time visit, and would love to have the total taste of France.

Ideas about transportation, hotels, wineries, restaurants etc. and best time to travel.

Hope to hear from all of you,

To have a kind of total taste of France, my opinion is that you should visit Paris of course, and then rent a car a make a kind of a tour which would be, clockwise, Alsace (of course), Burgundy, Provence, Périgord, Brittany maybe, the Loire Valley castles and then back to Paris .

You should try to sleep in %26#39;chambres d%26#39;hôtes%26#39; ( = B%26amp;Bs) when possible .

The best time to travel may be June and September . You should definitely avoid the period from mid-July to the end of August because this is the most touristy period .

Are you still planning?

I would definitely visit Alsace region. I have stayed in Kayserberg which is the most wonderful little village, very German/French if that makes sense. Stayed there 4 days and had a wonderful time. Did have a hire car and visited Strasbourg and Colmar among other places. And, if you are a wine buff, then this is the place. I was there in April 06, still a little cold but wonderful.

And Paris - what can you say? My most favourite place ever.

With regards to hotels, I find they are very expensive, so I always opt for 2 star and have never been disappointed.

Best time to travel, definitely not the middle of winter - too cold, however I%26#39;m not used to snow. I prefer to travel either April/May or Sept/Oct which is more the shoulder seasons - weather still good though not too many tourists!!! (even though I am one lol)
