Paris + Rugby World Cup = Crowds and Craziness?

Hello fellow travelers,

Is Paris going to be crowded and crazy with the Rugby World Cup there when I will be there the week of October 14 to 20, 2007?

October 20 being the championship game.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

When I was in Paris in early February 2005, the Scotland v France game was on the Saturday and Paris was full of people in tartan and kilts. It was not %26quot;crazy%26quot; but it was very busy and hotel accommodation was hard to find and my friend from London could not get a return trip on Eurostar on the Sunday for love or money and could only come over for a day trip.

Crowded yes - it%26#39;s a capital city and always is. An extra 70,000 will blend in almost unnoticed. Seriously. I went to the world athletics champs in 2003 where crowds topped the 70000, and in Paris itself you would never have known the event was on!

Crazy no. Please don%26#39;t put rugby fans in the same category as soccer fans: rugby fans are passionate about the game and in my 35 years as a rugby wife I have never encountered any trouble (if that%26#39;s what you mean by craziness).

I%26#39;d just make sure you avoid the northbound RER line B after about 5pm on 20th as thousands will be using this to reach Stade de France (kick off is 9pm). If this clashes with your return to CDG then maybe look for an alternative mode of transport.
