What does LOL mean?

I see in a lot of posts the word LOL. What does it mean?

These abbreviations are from the text-message world, I think.

LOL = laughing out loud

BTW = by the way

FYI = for your information

IMO = in my opinion

IMHO = in my humble opinion

AKA = also known as

IrishRovr had a variation called ROFL - I am not sure, but it could be %26quot;Rolling on the Floor Laughing%26quot; - or perhaps something naughty...

Now I can understand much more! These things we do%26#39;nt learn at school!

I wouldn%26#39;t say I%26#39;m ROFLMAO but I did LOL ; )

Here%26#39;s a good resource (I%26#39;m sure there are others too) when, in the future, you see acronyms you don%26#39;t recognize:

http://www.acronymfinder.com/

It usually means that they were always the first child to be eliminated during their school%26#39;s annual spelling bees...or they%26#39;ve spent a carreer employed by the Department of Defense.

|||

I thought LOL stood for %26#39;left out louts%26#39;. In other words, the hooligans who are excluded from football stadiums and subject to social exclusion orders. But it just goes to show you. It means %26#39;laugh out loud%26#39;. You learn something new every day.

And then there is my favorite...

whenever my son is IMing or texting and I ask him a question...inevitably I get......Idk....(I don%26#39;t know!) LOL!

|||

Gitte,

Thanks once again for coming through with the answer. I%26#39;ve been trying to figure that one out for a long time without your assistance!

jslatch;

Thank-you for the acronym address. Never again will I have to bother anyone for abbreviations (Ihope).
