Dear Members, could you please help me, in order to avoid traffic and confusion, could you recommend us the best place to return a car in Paris? We will rent a car from Hertz and drive to Paris from Bordeaux. We should arrive at Paris around 20:00 to 21:00 and will stay at a hotel on the 19th Arrondissemont. The drop off point at Gare du Nord station is an option but we are afraid of confusion as well as traffic...
Thank you very much.

Hi. I rented a car from Hertz in Paris last week. I returned it at Hertz Porte d%26#39; la Italie, very easy and very close to the expressway. There is a metro station next to it (port d%26#39; la Italie) with many lines / connections.
Mercy.

Hertz doesn%26#39;t appear to have a desk in the 19th Arr. so Gare de l%26#39;Est and Gare du Nord are the closest to that Arr. Approximately where are you staying in the 19th?

Ooops! I ment : Merci.

BTW, on your drive to Paris, I strongly suggest you go out of your way to obey the speed limits. We just drove that route a couple of weeks ago and got two speeding tickets, both by automatic cameras which are almost impossible to contest. They have to be paid in 15 days or the fine triples on the 16th day. Since the rental car company has to forward your address for mailing the citation to you, you almost automatically get the worst-case fine if you don%26#39;t have a French address to receive mail and are there to receive it.
The first ticket on the A-11 southwest of Paris was for doing 134kph in a 130kph zone. Fine was 45€
The second was near Beaulieu in Le Lot, entering a small town on a local road. It was a construction zone and poorly marked. The allegedly posted limit was 70kmh, the camera says we were going 80kmh. Fine was 85€.
We go out of our way to obey speed laws and we are in no hurry when we drive in France. Just an FYI.

The one near the Place d%26#39;Italie is the easiest to get to. Call to see what to do if arriving when the office is closed.
Go to:

Enter Hertz and Paris 13, then get a map.

Hi everybody,... Thank you very much for your answers. It seems that the station in Place d%26#39;Italie will be already closed by that time we arrive Paris, and they do not offer after-hour return. We%26#39;ll stay in Hotel Kyriad Paris la Villette, because it is quite cheap (around 25EUR/person/night with 1 double room and 1 triple room) and get quite an ok review here. So would the station at Gare du Nord be the best option?

Hi Herrbie
Why not ask the hotel? I%26#39;ve booked an apartment and thought (from the car rental websites) that Montparnasse was our best option...the apartment agency, however, was able to point me towards Gare de Lyon (which I would have never considered!)

Kemwel%26#39;s Place d%26#39;Italie office option does have after-hour drop-box service. It%26#39;s actually a Europcar office. In about a month, by necessity I will actually find out where this drop box is. Apparently, it%26#39;s across the street, somewhere in the parking garage of that Centre Commercial d%26#39;Italie 2.
