Folies Bergere Theatre

Hi all,

I have been reading in the forum about the broadway show Cabaret at Folies Bergere. Can anyone tell me if the show is in english or french? There website is in all french, and I understand very little. Has anyone see it?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Expect it to be in French - but does it really matter ? It is a musical and I presume you know the plot. If not - buy a DVD with the old 70%26#39;ties version with Liza Minelli.

I have booked a seat for June - in the %26quot;KitKat-club%26quot; category where you get seated at cafétablesin front of the stage, as if you were actually a part of the show.

the problem with understanding the text is the same with opera - how much of the Nibelungen Ring perfomed in German would make sense, if you didn%26#39;t take a look at the plot first ? (And even then Wagner can be a very tricky fellow to understand.....)

Thanks GitteK, I thought as much.

I was just thinking about my boyfriend who has not seen it and would be completely lost since he does understand or speak french, but you are right I will go ahead an rent the dvd and have him watch it.

You might also consider buying (or borrowing at the library) the novel on which the musical is based:

%26quot;Goodbye to Berlin%26quot; by Christopher Isherwood.

I saw Cabaret last Oct. seated in the Kit Kat Club section right up front and thoroughly enjoyed it, even if it was in French which is a bit of a struggle for me normally, but having seen the American theatre and film version it was very easy to follow. Afterwards we went around the corner on rue Saulnier to the Bar des Artisites for a glass of wine and practically the entire cast plus the director showed up for a late dinner. The director was interested in our opinion of the production, since it had just opened, and introduced us to the %26quot;Texas Trumpet%26quot; who is an American.

Bar des Artistes is going straight into my bar-guide !

Thanks Laidback :)

I am glad you enjoyed it. I am sure we will too and we are definitely going to le Bar des Artiste.

Laidback, how big is the theatre? And how much a part does everyone sitting in the Kit Kat section really take part in?

The night we went, only one lady was brought up on stage to dance a bit with the head liner. The theatre has a large seating capacity, but the Kit Kat Club area in the front center has limited seating and is set up with café tables and chairs, unlike the normal theatre seating. Pariscope quotes over 1000 seats, but it certainly didn%26#39;t appear that large.

We went again last night and enjoyed it even more because the Sally Bowles part was played by Claire Pérot, who was ill the 1st time we visited and was superb as is the actor, Fabian Richard who does a better, if possible, MC than Joel Grey .

Laidback14 - one of the spectators was brought up on the stage ??? OMG........

If they bring me up truth will be brought to the ancient saying:

%26quot;The opera isn%26#39;t over till the fat lady sings%26quot;.....

=o)
