Hello,
Going to Paris for 2 1/2 days. Any suggestions for hotels that are centrally located for city sightseeing, easy access to the airport (flying in from Zurich Switzerland). Will spend up to 250 Euro per night.
Also, woudl it be ferabible to go to Versailles in this time frame?
Please advise.
Thank you.

Hi LovetotravelNY
With that budget you could get almost any hotel except the most expensive ones. My recommendation would be to stay somewhere within walking distance of St Michel station from where you can easily get to either Orly or CDG (I assume you arrive and leave from one of them) by RER B train. You would probably like some of the popular hotels in the St Germain area in the 6th near the Seine. If you do a search of the forum for %26quot;St Germain%26quot; plus hotels you should find some suggestions to suit your tastes.
Also check the TA Hotel Review section that will allow you to sort by neighbourhood (here St Germain des Pres)
I assume %26quot;ferabible%26quot; was a typo? I would not do a trip to Versailles if this is your first trip as you have so much to see in Paris itself in only 2 1/2 days.

Hi
I stayed at Hilton near Eiffel tower just a week ago and that was OK. It was not worth the 250€ that I paid but I see people in here have gotten it for 120$. I have made an interactive Google map on my homepage http://gardkarlsen.com/paris_france_map.htm and I have marked where some of the attractions are located. I have also marked the hotels that I have used (the yellow markers) and you can click on the markers to get more information. With only 2 1/2 days in Paris I would not go for Versailles even if it is pretty nice :-)...but there is so much to see and do in Paris itself. Have a great trip. I%26#39;ll send you my trip report as a private message.

Hello Gard,
Just saw your post. I will look forward to reading your trip report tomorrow. We were able to add an extra half day (changed our flight out to 5PM instead of 7:30AM. Do you know think Versailles is now worth going to?
Thanks again!

On my last trip in November I stayed at the Radisson SAS Champs Elysees, very central (about 20 steps from the Arc de Triumph).
You won%26#39;t have time for Versailles on this trip unless you are willing to give up about 3/4 of a day in Paris. Not sure how much you want to see, if you%26#39;ve been before and already done the sites, blah, blah.
Have fun!

After reading your other posts it sounds as if you have done much research on where you want to go and what you want to do.
If Versailles is on your must do list you could do it early the second day you are there. I would head to the train by 8:00am and you can spend up to 1/2 or 2/3 of a day touring the Chateau.
It was on our list of must do and we all loved it.
Here is the web site and you can just click on the acess to get there which will give you directions.

Hi lovetotravelNY ! Flying at 5 P.M. is definitely more convenient than flying at 7:30 A.M., but I don%26#39;t think it will really give you more touring time since you have to be at the airport several hours before your flight, and you need to consider traveling time to the airport. You%26#39;ll be able to eat a leisurely breakfast on your last day, but I don%26#39;t think you%26#39;ll be able to really tour.
I personally loved Versailles, but I can%26#39;t imagine going there unless you have at least 3 additional days to visit the main attractions of Paris. However, if seeing the lovely Versailles still takes preference over a number of the other sights, then it%26#39;s entirely up to you. As I said before, I believe it%26#39;s a worthwhile trip.

Hi
It all depends on what you want to see. But if you want to cover the Eiffel tower, Louvre, D%26#39;Orsay, Arc de Triomphe, Sacre Coeur etc etc it will be a very hectic city break for you. It is possible to cover it all but I think that it will just leave you exhausted...so maybe you have to make some priorities :-)

We just got back yesterday. One of the days we started at Sacre Coeur, walked though Montmarte, visited the Opera Garnier, visited the Cluny and then the Louvre. We were happy, but tired. Versailles is about a 1/2 day trip. We rented bikes and rode around the grounds to see the Trianons and Hamlet (quicker and more fun than the train). With such a small amount of time you will have to decide what you must do. The Orsay was one of my favorite parts of our trip!

Check out the Au Trocaderro hotel. It%26#39;s in a perfect location...1 min walk to the metro, 5 min walk to the eiffel tower, and about a 15-20 min walk to the Arc de Triomph...we booked through the Best Western website, as it was the best rate, and we had a small balcony with the Eiffel tower view.
Take the evening boat cruise from near the Eiffel tower, it goes down the Seine to Notre Dame Cathedral, around and back...the buildings are all lit up, and the Eiffel Tower is magical, with all the twinkly lights.
