Star ATM Card

We will be traveling to Paris.

I have a ATM card with Star on the Back. I have heard that PLUS is the preferred card.

Will I have problems getting cash with a Star ATM, or should I get a PLUS card

To the best of my knowledge STAR is NOT an international network and has no presence in Europe.....but it does cooperate with either-or-both VISA%26#39;s %26#39;..PLUS..%26#39; or MacterCard%26#39;s %26#39;..CIRRUS..%26#39; network(s). Your best bet will be to check with the financial institution that issed your STAR-branded card directly to see which other financial networks your card will work with. If neither, then change cards / accounts....

One of the catches to this is that European networks will only accept ATM / Debit transactions tied to unlimited demand deposit accounts---most usually ordinary checking accounts. Cards tied to limited demand-deposit accounts (most usually some sort of restricted-access savings-type account...the sort that may only allow a few %26#39;..checks..%26#39; per month to be drawn against the account) are more often refused than others....and before you go openning new accounts or closing old ones, check to find out what the %26#39;..foreign transaction fees..%26#39; and other Terms %26amp; Conditions effecting the account(s) may be.

But ATM / Debit cards tied to VISA%26#39;s %26#39;PLUS%26#39; or M/C%26#39;s %26#39;CIRRUS%26#39; networks will work about equally well...with a slight advantage going to PLUS.

KDKSail Thanks for you information. We have checked with our bank; they are telling us it will work in Europe, but the Star website says domestic locations only.

As previously noted, I%26#39;m pretty sure ( 98%) that though %26#39;STAR%26#39; is a North American-only transaction processing network, it does %26#39;..cooperate..%26#39; with either or both the VISA %26#39;PLUS%26#39; and / or M/C %26#39;CIRRUS%26#39; internationalal networks...so it will work in Paris. But I%26#39;d pursue this either through your local bank (local officers simply may not know) or through the STAR customer service department directly....just to be 100% certain.
