one day in Carcassone to suit all ages

Hello

Planning a day in Carcassone end of May with family ranging from 6 years to 70 yrs. Could somebody suggest an itinerary, would like to fit in as much as possible. Should we start with the Cite, somewhere nice for lunch, the lac de Cavayere and are there any reasonably priced French chain stores in Carcassone.

Here is the Carcassone website, which should be of use.

Personally, I would start with the old city, you may find this enough to entertain all the age groups in your party, and include decent places to eat.. I can%26#39;t speak for contemporary Carcassonne, but the answers you seek should/might be on the website, somewhere

Definitely do the cite and (although this sounds a bit lame) be sure to do the tram that circles the city walls. Your 6 year old will love the tram and your 70 year old will get a rest. There%26#39;s also a great carousel right at the main gate entrance where the grandfolks can rest while the little ones have a blast! And I would agree that there are plenty of restaurants in the cite... we ate at the main plaza and while we lingered over our food, our kids played in the open space near the walls.

There are plenty of restaurants in the Cite, cafes to sit out in the square, and touristy shops to explore. A museum of an old classroom and school things, and the rampards to visit, which you have to pay to go in. Also a couple of smaller museums, and the old church. The canal to wander along, and shops, which are about 10-15 minutes walk away in the newer town. I liked wondering around the vineyards, which surround the Cite.
