travelling from Paris Charles de Gaulle airport to Auxerre

We are coming to Auxerre in November and would appreciate any information that anyone could give us in regard to getting from Paris CDG airport to Auxerre.

Once in Auxerre our hotel is easy enough to find as I have found some maps.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Fiona — and welcome!

By far the easiest way to get to Auxerre would be to hire a car. But I assume you would rather not do that.

There are only a few direct trains from Paris Bercy to Auxerre, taking a bit over 1.5 hours. Other opions involve taking a train fom Paris Gare de Lyon and changing either in Dijon or at Laroche-Migennes. These will take longer, possibly quite a bit longer depending on connection times.

You can research timetables and fares at www.voyages-sncf.com or possibly at www.raileurope.co.uk (I%26#39;m not familiar with the latter.)

To get to either Bercy or gare de Lyon you have various options: (1) public transport which would be cheapest, 8€10 each (2) Air France coach to Gare de Lyon www.carsairfrance.com and a taxi or the métro from there for the very short trip to Bercy or (3) a taxi from CDG at a cost of about 40€-45€.

www.ratp.fr will help with the public transport options.

The information in my original reply remains valid two weeks later. If there is any of it that is unclear, feel free to ask.

Rangers? Rangers??? Oh yes. They%26#39;re that other Glasgow team, right? :-)

Why not rent a car? You can get there in about 2.5 hours, depending on traffic. Getting back to CDG there are options. By train you have to get to Paris first , then probably have to take two trains.

There *are* direct trains from Bercy to Auxerre taking about 1.5 hours as I mentioned, but they are infrequent.

Hi Fiona,

the easiest and cheapest way is to take the RER from the airport. The RER, in case you don%26#39;t know, is sort of like the metro but goes further. take the RER B line into paris and get off at chatelet les halles. that%26#39;s a beast of a metro station so keep your wits about you. from here to can take a metro, or the RER line A, to the gare de lyon, the main train station serving Auxerre. from there it%26#39;s about 2 hours to Auxerre, sometimes direct, sometimes with a change at Laroche Migennes. LM is small and easy to navigate. hardly anybody who gets off there is not going on to auxerre so you can follow the crowds. bear in mind that change times can be short so don%26#39;t spend too long faffing around. that said, i never actually missed one so it can%26#39;t be that tight!

although the journey might look a bit complex it%26#39;s not really and is far cheaper than catching the airport bus and less hassle then driving out of paris.

hope that helps

there are several direct trains daily from Paris Bercy to Auxerre. These are quicker amd more convenient than the trains from Gare de Lyon all of which, as noted, require a change.
