Hi Matty -

There are many small railroads in various parts of France, some of which operate on a regular schedule and year-round, others only seasonally or occasionally. Most of these are either diesel or electric, but there are *some* excursion trains that are steam operated.

I have these web sites collected from some time ago and have not checked them individually to see which are steam operated. Some of them may have only French language pages.

Hope these sites are helpful. If there is a particular area of France you are intertested in give another shout and I will see if I can dig up anything specific to that region.

The train museum in Mulhouse is well worth a visit if you plan to be in that part of france.

Bon voyage en train!

Matty --

I love steam lokies and did a search a little while ago to see if there was anything accessible in France. I copied this to a file, and I have no idea where it came from, but it will give you a starting point.

%26quot;The oldest surviving line (running for 150 years now) operates in France’s Loiret region and transports passengers back and forth from Pithiviers and Toury%26quot;.

Good luck.

There is a map of Tourist Lines: http://www.trains-fr.org/unecto/_dest/ According to the legend top left, the red dots show steam trains and it looks like you can click through to the regions and then the individual lines.
