Hi there, I am trying to find a hotel for a long weekend late July for myself %26amp; another couple. We are in our late 30%26#39;s and want to find a NICE , relaxing place...not cheap, but not over the top. Byblos sounds fun, but we want a just a nice weekend getaway from London, and not pay 650 per night for what we are looking for...perhaps up to 250. We are looking for: lounging on the beach/pool, shopping and nice restaurants. I am finding places in other towns, ie, Grimaud, St. Maxime. Are these places close to St. Tropez? Do we need to rent a car? Thanks for your thoughts :)

Hey Bunny,
You%26#39;ve probably figured out by now that hotel accommodation in St Tropez is not cheap. You won%26#39;t get much for €250 I%26#39;m afraid. I stayed at Les Capucines last year and it was pretty decent for the price we paid (about €190 pn I think). The only downside was that it was a little out of town (2-3 kms) for partying/shopping. You%26#39;ll find my review under the hotel. This year I%26#39;m staying in the middle of the action at Hotel Sube and we%26#39;re taking the ferry from Cannes, so bypassing the nightmare summer traffic.

I travelled to St Tropez last year in Sept so we didn%26#39;t have the traffic/parking problem, but I%26#39;m guessing in July it will be an issue. Whether you rent a car or not I guess depends on whether you want to travel elsewhere on side trips, and what time your flights are at, how much time you have to hang around waiting for ferries, trains buses etc. For four of you coming from Nice, a car might be the quickest and easiest way of getting to St Trop. Once you get there, be prepared to abandon it in town at about €30 pn. Parking at the more out-of-town places like caupcines is free but you%26#39;ll spend it on taxis...
Have a ball!
