I am planning a trip to Paris in October for myself and my husband. It will be my first trip abroad and it happens to coincide with our 4th anniversary. He has been to Paris before and his only guidance has been that the Left Bank is where we should stay, and the rest is up to me since I am picky about where I sleep.
We will be there for six nights and I want nice linens, a location that will allow a lot of walking (the Louve, D%26#39;Orsay, Notre Dame, ET are on the itinerary), and a cafe nearby for breakfast (coffee, juice, croissant or pastry). We hope to find something that is between 150 and 180 EU.
I%26#39;ve narrowed down our list and have to decide between the Hotel Relais Saint Sulpice and either the Hotel du Pantheon or Hotel des Grands Hommes. The rates are similar so it is a matter of room size for the rate and the locations I think.
At the Relais St. Sulpice, we have the option of a standard room (175 eu), moderate (180 euros) or Superior (195 euros). All the TA reviews site deluxe rooms which are out of our range I think. Is there a big difference between the room categories in size of room to justify paying the extra rate?
Also, the three hotels (Relais/Pantheon/Grand Hommes) seem similar which is leading me to the Relais since the location seems more central. Is there a difference I am missing?
One more question -- we will arrive in Paris at 8 am on a Saturday morning after flying all night from the U.S. Since I am sure I will want to freshen up before setting out for the day, I am planning to book a room for Friday night with a late checkin. Is that the best way to handle the situation?
Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide.

I was thinking of staying at Relais St. Sulpice for my trip in April. It%26#39;s a long story...but I%26#39;m now booked at the Hotel Luxembourg Parc a block away. Anyway I found this website with the room sizes for each category at Relais St. Sulpice helpful.

Our 12th stay at the Relais St. Sulpice is coming up in a few weeks--we never stay anywhere else. This is a great hotel, with an amazing location and very helpful staff.
We have only stayed in the top catagory rooms, but have looked into the others. I think that the top catagory price may be based on some increase in size, but I expect that the church view is what you are actually paying for. Tons of light and 2 large windows. The lower priced rooms face the interior courtyard, which is quiet and charming. Either way, you cannot go wrong.
As for your reserving a room the day before you get there--I can only say that we have only had to wait once for our room to be ready--even though we arrive CDG around 08:00 as well. If I were you, I would call the front desk a day before to see about early availability, and inform them of your plans. Worst case, you just tough it out if your room is not ready when you get there around 11:00. Take the money you would spend on Friday and put it toward the deluxe room.

Thank you for your feedback! I changed our reservation so that we are only paying for the nights we will actually sleep there. That saved us enough to pay for quite a few meals I think! Much appreciated.
Now that we know where we will be staying the whole trip seems much more real. Can%26#39;t believe we still have almost 8 months before we leave!

I would recommend that you NOT stay at the Grand Hommes. My experience with their customer service is not good. I am currently in a dispute with them over a charge.
