Bonjour,
We are lucky enough to be traveling to Paris mid June 2007 and are looking for exciting things to do while we are there. Of course we plan to see all the major sites, but being that I am a firefighter here in the United States, I want to possibly visit some of the %26quot;fire brigades%26quot; as they call them in France.
Well, I did a Google search and stumbled upon the following site:
http://www.pompiersparis.fr/accueil.htm
My French translation is nil, but from what I gather this is a benefit performance for the fire brigade association, and is to be held on June 15, 2007. Apparently this is a yearly event, and I was wondering if anyone knows of this, and if yes, what does the show consist of? From the pictures on the brochure featured on the website mentioned above, it appears to be something like a Cirque du Soleil type performance?
Any help you can offer will be helpful. Thank you in advance!

I had never heard of them but it seems like an impressive unit. Here%26#39;s the broad line I can translate for you.
They%26#39;re actually closer to what you would know as National guard and are pretty much an engineer unit. The unit was created back in 1811 after a great fire in the city and is attached to Paris surrounding area. They respond to the Ministry of defense but also have many responsibilities toward national museum, atomic energy, gas and e;ectricity, etc...they can evn be deployed outside of France.
These days, I understand they mostly act toward prevention and advisors.
They%26#39;re only about 7000, 5300 of them from the military.
From what I could understand, the show presents a band - marching band type obviously, they are soldiers :-) -, a choir and then the acrobatics show from the 50 gymnastic monitors of the unit.
The official description goes something like this :
%26quot;Between a musical and nouveau cirque, the show mixes acrobatics, singing, music and special effects. Illustrate theme of emergencies, fireman outfit through the ages and fire interventions.%26quot;
Don%26#39;t think the show actually compare too well to Cirque du soleil but the unit has a lot of history so it might be of interest to you. Otherwise, I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll find things to do in Paris :-)
Here%26#39; a clip.

Thank you so much for the translation and the extra information. The clip was great. That looks pretty interesting.
