Just returned after 6 magical days in Paris and many weeks of lurking on this site. I%26#39;m a novice at international travel, but despite this lack of experience and inability to speak French, I had a fantastic time. Took the Metro/RER everywhere--Marais, Latin Quarter, Versailles, Montmarte. Only got lost in Marais and I quickly learned to hang on to my ticket as some of stations required using it again during transfers.
Highlights:
--if you%26#39;re in the Notre Dame area do consider going to the deportation museum, a tribute to the victims of the Holocaust. It%26#39;s located by the bridge that leads to the Latin Quarter behind the church. Tiny in size, but not in emotional impact.
--The Roden Museum with its gardens and L%26#39;Orangerie with its Monet murals were favorite spots.
--Rue du Cler (7th) was unbeatable as a place to stay. Many cafes, markets, chocolate shops and cheese stores. Favorite eatery was Restaurant La Litote, 24 rue Bosquet, just a half block off Rue Cler. La Litote was more expensive than the typical street cafes, but well worth it.
All and all, it was a wonderful time, and I thank the Trip Advisor posters for their helpful, thoughtful advice.

Hi Go go
If you spent most of those 6 days in April then you must be pretty much straight off the plane back to Ohio. It seems that you had such a wonderful time there that I suspect it won%26#39;t be long before you are planning your next Paris trip!

Thanks for posting your trip report... it is so good to know that you had a great time and that TA advice helped!

Gogo,
What is the official name of the %26quot;deportation museum%26quot;. Do you know their website?
|||
Mémorial des Martyrs de la Déportation
As its name suggests it is actually not a museum but a memorial.

There is also a Shoah museum and memorial in the Marais.

Thank you for your post, GogoOH. Good to know you enjoyed Paris so much!

I hope to return to Paris again and again. And thanks again to all of you knowledgable travelers who willingly share your expertise with us novices.
|||
Glad you had a great time! I was there a few weeks ago, also in the 7th. Did you stop in the Fromagerie on Rue Cler? I loved that place, and the woman working there was beyond helpful! Oh, and we too got lost in Marias! LOL!
Anyway, welcome home! Glad your trip was enjoyable!
|||
Sure did. Loved the little shops. Even bought my postcards on Rue Cler in a news shop. Much cheaper than most other places.
|||
We just returned from a week staying in an apartment (from vacationinparis.com) a block away from Rue Cler. We loved it!! The shops were wonderful for putting together a meal after a long day, and the people in the shops were friendly and helpful. By the middle of the week, they knew all of us and greeted us like friends. Great food, great atmosphere, and I can%26#39;t wait to go back!

Thanks for your post.
How was the weather? We are leaving in 9 days.
