Travel to Amboise

Help!

I%26#39;m trying plan a trip and I%26#39;d like to travel from Antibes to Amboise. Having trouble finding a train that will make this possible without going through Paris and taking many hours. Mapquest says that the driving time is about 8 hours. Would anyone know if this is accurate? Would it be worth the drive? And would it be prohibitively expensive to rent a car in Antibes, drop it off in Amboise and consider gas, tolls, etc? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

In France, all roads lead to Paris. I should consider it difficult at best to travel between these two points without a lengthy delay somewhere en route.

As you have already checked the driving time, I can confirm that the quickest time between Amboise and Antibes is 8h15. Plan on 65 euros in tolls and probably that and more in fuel. One -three day car rentals are very expense however it would be rare to pay a drop off fee for travel between French cities. To rent a car and travel this distance could easily exceed 250 euros total cost. If you are traveling as a group (2-4 people) auto travel might be worth the convenience and time savings. If however you are traveling alone, you may want to recheck the SNCF website and consider booking a train.

You won%26#39;t find a convenient way to make this trip by train without going through Paris. You *could* find a train from Lyon to Tours but it would probably be slower rather than quicker.

if I were making this trip I would probably take an EasyJet flight from Nice (NCE) to CDG and then take a direct TGV from CDG to St Pierre des Corps just outiside Tours, about a 1hr40m trip. If you are renting a car St. P. des C. is a good pick-up point. If not you can get to Amboise easily by train from there.

Eight hours driving sounds pretty optimistic to me even without stops. In mid-summer it could easily take you quite a bit longer and you would certainly need a couple of meal stops plus fuel stops. Fuel costs would depend on the type of vehicle and fuel. (Diesel is less expensive than gasoline.) At a wild guess I would say 150€-200€ for fuel and tolls plus your rental costs. It would be a worthwhile trip by car if you can aford a minimum of two days, and three would be better. I would avoid this option if you only have one day to make the trip.

Look at voyages-sncf.com for train travel. Use %26quot;Roissy%26quot; as the name of the CDG TGV station. This %26quot;how to%26quot; by MorganB will be helpful: http://tinyurl.com/qpdef

For driving routes, distrances and estimated fuel and toll costs go to viamichelin.com and set the %26quot;Options%26quot; to suit your vehicle type etc.

For flights check www.easyjet.com

Good luck!
