We are staying in Paris for two nights in July with my two teenage daughters (14 and 17), and I am curious for feed back as to whether or not the Moulin Rouge would be appropriate, more so for the 14 year old (she%26#39;s pretty well-traveled and very mature). Also, given that we only have two nights, is this too touristy?
Thanks

The topic of the appropriateness of the MR for younger people has been discussed several times at considerable length, some might say ad nauseam. If you use the search box on the right above the posts you should be able to find a number of threads.
As to your other question, it is among the most touristy of all the things you could possibly do in Paris. On such a short trip I certainly wouldn%26#39;t waste an entire evening and a good chunk of cash on the MR.

Hello;
Wise advice from Irishrovr here.
I would think that most families finding themselves in the Moulin Rouge area would find the quickest way out.
I can think of no less appropriate place in Paris to take two teenage daughters.

Thank you both for the responses. That%26#39;s pretty much what I thought on both questions. We%26#39;ll skip it. I%26#39;m sure that there are many, many other options!

Do you actually believe that there is anythingon display in MR that can possibly shock or even surprise two girls (14 and 17) in the year 2007 ??

Actually I didn%26#39;t say the MR is inappropriate for teenagers of either s€x and I don%26#39;t think it is.
(But TA thinks the word s€x is a profanity. Go figure...)

Hello GitteK;
Being from the States I%26#39;m aware of what kids are exposed to and no I do not think they will see anything they haven%26#39;t already seen. Point is they can see what the Moulin Rouge has to offer in the seamy side of any city or on any adult website...
There are richer more rewarding ways to spend time in Paris than roaming through the seedy underbelly... but we all have differen itches to scratch...
|||
I hardly think the MR deserves to be called the %26quot;seedy underbelly%26quot; of anywhere any more than the shows in Las Vegas deserve that sobriquet. I think you might have it confused with some of the tackier of American %26quot;gentlemen%26#39;s clubs%26quot; to which it bears no resemblance. That said, I think there are about a zillion and three better ways to spend an evening and a few hundred €uros in Paris.

The MR and Pigalle, the area surrounding it, are not seedy, in fact, it%26#39;s considered another normal touristic area, just like the Red Light district in Amsterdam is full of tourists of all ages. It%26#39;s an exageration to think the MR is not appropriate for teens, unless for religious reasons or ultra-conservativeness.
|||
In Amsterdam the prostitutes sit naked on display in the windows (I have seen it). Now THAT%26#39;s a %26quot;red light%26quot; district.
|||
The MR really has nothing to do with the red light disrtrict in Amsterdam or anywhere else for that matter. It is a cabaret with some rather scantily clad dancers in some bits of the show. So what%26#39;s to get all worked up about?
