I did some searching on the Marais disctrict, but I can%26#39;t seem to get a good idea on how late shops and such would be open during the week. I will be in Paris in May and the sun doesn%26#39;t set until after 9pm (how wonderful is that?). Can I go explore the Marais around 5 or 6pm and still find shops open for awhile? Or do most places close around 6 or 7? I%26#39;m assuming restaurants are open late, so I%26#39;m really interested in the hours for shops and the like.
Thanks!

Generally , shops close around 7h00 or 8h00 PM ; in the touristic areas , the souvenirs shops can stay open later and off course as you mention it the restaurants are open late , generally before 10h00 , you won%26#39;t have any problem to start a dinner .
the 2 big stores in Paris (le Printemps and Galleries Lafayette ) close late on the thursdays (22h00 and 21h00)

The supermarkets such as G20, Franprix, Monoprix, 8 à huit etc. have fixed opening/closing hours - usually they close around 20:00-20:30.
But I have found a lot of the small groceries, often run by immigrant families, to be open for literally as long as there are customers around who want to shop - that is until around 23:00-23:30.

Thanks so much for the replies. I%26#39;ll keep my fingers crossed that most of the stores will be open until 8. That should give us a few good hours of exploring and shopping. I have almost exactly one month before we arrive. I am getting SO excited!

Shops in the Marais are generally open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Some open at 10:30 and many stay open till 7:30. But not many shops will be open till 8.
Most of the Marais is open on Sunday afternoons - although some of the smaller shops are closed on Sundays and Mondays.
Bon voyage!

Though not the Marais...but the %26#39;..grand magazins..%26#39;--GALERIES LAFAYETTE and PRINTEMPS on Blvd. Haussmann and Le BON MARCHÉ down in the 7eme have late-openning hours until at least 9 PM on Thursdays (as do some of the other stores and shops in the immediate vicinity). If your shopping plans include the %26#39;grand magazins%26#39;, then you can %26#39;extend%26#39; your day a bit on Thursdays at these stores.
