The timetables and fares for the inaugural month of the new TGV Est have just been announced. There are some amazing bargains to be had for anyone who moves quickly. From tonight you can book trains from June 10, the inaugural day of the service, through July 10. I do not think these fares will be around for long...
Paris-Reims is now a 45 minute trip, cut from 95 minutes. PROMO fares as low as 10€ one way.
Paris-Strasbourg, now 2hrs 20m, was 4 hours. Fares from 15€.
Paris-Luxembourg, now 2hrs 5m, was 3hrs35m. Fares from 15€.
Other routes on which times have been reduced significantly include Metz (90m), Nancy (90m), Colmar (2hrs50m), and Bâle/Basel (3hrs30m).
So far there appears to be only one scheduled direct high speed train to Frankfurt leaving around 19:00 and taking just over 4 hours. Lowest fares on this train are 29€ one way. There are other trains to Frankfurt with changes in either Sarrebruck or Karlsruhe taking about 4.5 hours with fares starting at ~60€.
Bon voyage!

O.K., Irish, so when are you traveling?
|||
Hmmm....I just booked 3 nights in Versailles after a week in Paris in October for my biannual indepth visit. Maybe I should skip a year and head to Frankfort instead. 4 hours. Das ist ehrfürchtig!!

IrishRovr, do you have a website?

Shoesy -
I am currently trying (somewhat unsuccessfully) to conflate three trips this fall (Ireland, England and France) into one so the answer is some time between mid-September and late November. I can%26#39;t afford three trips and I would rather not make two if I can avoid it.
People have this nasty habit of arranging events without consulting other people. Speaking of which I gather further congratulations are due so...
My very best wishes to your son and his fiancée!

No, I don%26#39;t. Why do you ask?
|||
Sorry, I meant for TGV...but I have since found it. Thanks for sharing the original post.

Shoesy,
another one???
Irish,
Thanks so much for the info! If you go to Paris in Sept, maybe I will run into you.......on purpose....
|||
Thanks, Irish. Enjoy planning your trip/trips.
Yes, Robin, another wedding......this one will be in 2008, in Israel. If I had a third child, I would insist on a Paris wedding, and guess what the main dessert would be.
