From Paris to Normandy for a D-Day tour

Hey folks. I will be in Paris for 3 days part of a Contiki tour. We have a free day for ourselves in Paris and would like to visit Normandy. We would like to visit the D-Day Museum in Caen, the American cemetary at Omaha, and other major sites from the D-Day battle. If anybody has any suggestions or advice for us, please respond. We would like to know if we should rent a car and drive or take a train, how much it would be, take a tour as opposed to doing it ourselves, where to book such a trip, or anything else we may need to fulfill our wishes. Thanks

Mike

You have such a short stay in Paris, that I would not take all the trouble of arranging it myself.

Yes, the tours are a little expensive, but they are full day trips and they include lunch.

You could take a train to Caen (~2 hours) and pick up a tour from there. Really though even a full day is not enough to see even the major D-day sites and trying to do it from Paris really only gives you about 6 hours visiting time. The beaches, cemeteries, museums and other places of interest are spread over hundreds of square miles. But if it is something your heart is set on take a look at Battlebus Tours, www.battlebus.fr

With only 3 days in Paris you might seriously consider spending your free day just enjoying the city. Three days barely gives you enough time to scratch the surface of this magnificent, multi-faceted city...

Battlebus Tours leaves fairly early from Bayeux, and I don%26#39;t think you could get there in time by train from Paris to take their tour. The Caen museum has a deal that includes admission to the museum and a 1/2 day D-Day sites tour, leaving from the museum. That might be more doable by train in a one day trip.

greyline offers a day tour and was recommended by our travel agent. it is a full day tour . it originates in paris. 7:a.m. and arrives back in paris at 9:00 p.m.
