can anyone remember where the atms are at cdg?

I would greatly appreciate it if someone could tell me where at Charles de Gaulle airport we can find an ATM to change out for some euros. We arrive at TErminal 2 F.

Also...we took the Roissybus 3 years ago to Opera and then an expensive cab ride to our barebones hotel in the Marais (4th arr.)! We%26#39;ll be having less luggage this time, so public transport is preferred and we%26#39;ll save on euros for dinner or croissants!

Is the RER too out of the way for a Hotel de Ville metro stop destination? Or, is the Roissybus/metro connection best for efficiency and cost? OR, is the Blue Van THE BEST alternative for 2 adults and 2 -22%26quot; rolly suitcases and 2 backpacks?

Merci beaucoup!

I used both 2E and 2C last year and there were ATM%26#39;s right in the terminals. They were also located either before or after baggage claim, so basically, there are quite a few. The CDG website has the locations mapped out, I believe.

I usually get a car service to pick me up at the airport (too jetlagged to deal with any work finding a ride and like the comfort of seeing a guy holding a sign with my name on it) so I can%26#39;t help you with the public transport. Do a search on this forum as that%26#39;s a relatively frequently asked question.

Midwest,

It would be very easy for you to take the RER from CDG into Paris, get off at Chatelet and transfer to Line 1 metro, just one stop to Hotel de Ville. Your RER ticket is good for both the train and the metro ride. Hope this helps.

If it is possible for you to get some euro at home it would save you time looking for the airport ATM. I don%26#39;t know what bank you use but Bank of America is affiliated with BNP Paribas which has multiudes of ATM machines everywhere in Paris-no fee for B of A customers. There is a BNP location at 18 rue Hotel de Ville.

There are many change offices in Roissy airport , some around the baggage chain .. less ATM , but i know there is one in CDG1 at the gate where stand the taxis .

But ask there at any desk , they will give you the information .

yes RER is convenient to go to the center of Paris . Change at Chatelet -les Halles and take Metro line 1 direction Chateau de Vincennes

I am very sorry to have to mention that , but : be very careful with your luggage in the RER , always keep it in sight and close to you , many thieves and pickpocket operate on that line , because of the tourists coming or going to CDG .

Since %26quot;Lougir%26quot; warned of concerns with being more closely watched by thieves/pickpockets on the RER from CDG, do you think it better to come into Paris via either the Air France bus OR the Roissybus and then switch to the Metro?

And...we thought a nice day trip, IF the weather is nice, would be to Fontainebleau (and maybe also Moret-sur-Loing). We%26#39;ve been to Paris before (and to Chartres and Giverny) and thought this would be a nice break in our one-week (too short!) stay in Paris.

Thanx for the help.

We recently stayed on rue des Archives, right next to the Hotel de Ville metro stop at the BHV. We came into town from CDG via the RER to Chatelet-les Halles, which is a breeze. We found it easier, and more pleasant, to simply walk from the RER station to our apartment via rue Rambuteau (see my trip report for more details), rather than try to do the transfer to the #1 line with baggage.

While it is possible to change to the #1 line for the one stop from Chatelet to Hotel de Ville, I don%26#39;t think the short ride on the metro is worth the extra hassle. The RER stop is actually under les Halles, while the #1 metro stop connection is all the way down at rue de Rivoli, probably close to a quarter of a mile away.

If you do exit at the RER station, there are escalators that go all the way to ground level, which helps with bags. You then can walk on flat ground into the Marais. If you decide to do the underground connection, and walk to the #1 line, you will probably have to climb at least some stairs, both in getting from the RER to the #1 line, and then once you exit, in getting up to ground level at Hotel de Ville.

There is really no problem taking the RER between the airports and Paris. Thousands of travellers do it every day and arrive with their persons and luggage intact. Surely they can%26#39;t all just be lucky...

Be aware of your surroundings, keep your luggage close to you, do not leave your purse or camera bag or lapop sitting in an overhead rack or casually tossed on a seat beside you and you wiil not have anything to worry about.

I think it makes sense to take one of the Express RERs from CDG as they make no or very limited stops between the airport and Gare du Nord. Generally luggage thefts or purse snatchings are %26quot;crimes of opportunity%26quot; where the thief grabs a carelessly unattended item as the doors open at a station and then takes off. Fewer stops means fewer opportunities. Every other RER is an Express. You can tell which by looking at the lighted signboards above the platform. At most you will wait about 7 minutes for an Express train and you will gain most of that back because they get to GduN faster.

There are a couple of ATMs close to the top of the escalator leading down to the RER station at CDG. I genrally use those as hardly anyone else ever seems to.

And I agree about walking from Châtelet. If you have too much heavy luggage to contemplate doing that, either take a taxi from the airport or take the RER to GduN and a taxi from there.
