Relais du Louvre?

I have made a reservation at the Relais du Louvre for early June, after many hours reading TA reviews. My main reason was location - central. Our last visit to Paris we stayed 5 min walk from Eiffel Tower. For some reason I am rethinking my choice, although I know it is getting a bit late to change..... I am sure the location is great, but as we are a triple, I%26#39;m wondering about the size, service etc etc. Any advice to allay my fears, or offer other suggestion for hotels would be greatly appreciated. We%26#39;ve stayed at the Relais du Louvre eight or ten times. It%26#39;s become our choice for family trips to Paris. You%26#39;re right about the location -- it%26#39;s great! It%26#39;s just a few steps away from the Pont Neuf and the Pont des Arts. The hotel is situated right between two Metro stops, both very close. There%26#39;s a great little pastry shop on the corner for early morning coffee, and a brasserie around the corner. And the Louvre is practically next door -- very very close. The hotel is tucked away on a quiet block, and is not a lively area at night, so if you want lots of nightlife just outside your door, then this is not your place. There%26#39;s plenty of action a few blocks away, but the street itself is very quiet, especially now that the Samaritaine department store is closed. The hotel staff is friendly and helpful. Since it%26#39;s a very small hotel, you%26#39;ll get to know them quickly. The rooms are small, but are about average size for three star hotels. They have been updated with flat screen TVs and fresh paint and linens in the past year or two. The bathrooms are clean and modern. Our children have stayed in the triple, and it%26#39;s perfectly lovely. Hope that helps you get a sense of what it%26#39;s like!

Hi Gblyn! Forum regular Holger raves about that hotel whenever she gets the chance. My sister has reservations to stay there in August.

Thank you both for that information. By the sounds of it, it should be just what we want and like. I will post my thoughts once we return. Regards LS

Hi,

We were there last year in one of the suites, larger rooms and accordingly more expensive. The triples should be fine although I have not seen them. Hotel is very well run. Excellent staff and very clean. Anything we needed like extra towels or pillows were provided. They will also make reservations for restaurants for you in advance if you request this via e-mail.

Last Summer to Fall all the beds were replaced and there seems to be ongoing painting and freshening done to the rooms. There is Cador%26#39;s on the corner for really terrific breakfasts and pastries and you can also pick up a lunch to take with you for picnics. Breakfast in the hotel is brought to your room and is a bit ore expensive but has a nice selection of pastries, fresh juice, etc. We did that on mornings we were going out early.

Location is excellent. Close to metro stops, several bus routes and one block from the Seine and between Pont Neuf and Artists Bridge. Near Rue Rivoli, Palais Royal so you can really walk many places. We are booked back late August-September. Like Aude, I can%26#39;t imagine staying anywhere else.

Just keep in mind that this is a small, three star hotel and not the Ritz. One of the more recent posters had some complaints about noises from other rooms. Since we were in a suite there were only two rooms on our floor and while we did occasionally hear sounds of the other occupants when they were waiting for the elevator and in the hall, we did not hear noises from their room. The apartment is the floor above and when there were small children uo there you could hear them running around in the late afternoon, early evening when we were in our room getting ready to go out for the evening. But by the time we got back, it was quiet.

You should be fine. Have fun. Will look for your posting on your return.

Shoesy, How are the wedding plans? When is it? How is your arm? Hope all goes well.

Hi Holger! My arm is sort of the same, though I%26#39;ve started physical therapy and hope to start seeing an improvement soon. My daughter%26#39;s wedding plans are coming along fine, but now we have another wedding to think about since my son is now engaged. This one will take place a year later, in 2008, and it%26#39;ll be here in Israel.
