Connecting flights through Heathrow

Hi everyone,

I was just looking at www.heathrowairport.com for information about my upcoming trip to Paris and read the following:

%26quot;Connecting from Terminal 1 International to Terminal 4

Your connection will take approximately 70 minutes, from landing to departure gate.%26quot;

Is this true? Will it take me over an hour to get from T1 to T4? Has anyone done this?

My British Airways flight is supposed to arrive at T1 at 9:45 a.m. and my departure flight through British Airways is scheduled for 12:05 p.m. I know that it is a difference of 2 hours but what if our plane arrives late and we can%26#39;t get to our departing flight on time. I have read some post here that say that BA waits for passengers on delayed flights, how often is the case? Please advice.

if all your flights are booked on the same ticket, BA will look after it should you not be able to connect due to delays. If 20 people are on the same flights and got delayed, or it%26#39;s the last flight of the day, they will most likely wait for you.

Getting from one terminal to another is a pain.

Hello, we did just that last year. We took a BA flt that landed at LHR, changed terminals and took off for CDG. Don%26#39;t stress. This may seem a lengthy explaination but if I had it before, maybe I would have stressed less.

A short distance after you come off the plane there is a BA information agent sitting almost under a sign that is clearly marked directing connecting passengers. That will be you. If you are unsure, then ask the agent and (s)he%26#39;ll smile and point at the sign and the stairs leading to the connecting route. It is very close to the first loos you encounter. You take a series of escalators and then a BA bus, yes a bus, the reason for the 70 minutes. The bus will take you to the next terminal...1 or 4 depending which way you are travelling. Yes, there may be a line for the bus. We travelled off-season and there was no line.

Our plane was late-what else- and we stressed big time. You do need to go through security at the next terminal. If your plane is delayed go up to the First class security agent and show them you have less than -in our case- 45 min. between connecting flights, they will let you in. Don%26#39;t hesitate to do this if you have little time for the connection. Even so it is a bit of a trial. We then walked very fast to the next gate and arrived as it was boarding. Of course, our luggage didn%26#39;t make it. It arrived on the next flight. However, we did have to sit and wait for some luggage to be off-loaded for passengers who were ticketed but not on the flight. Our flight LHR-CDG was a short one and on time. At CDG, the BA baggage agents tracked our luggage and assured us it was on the next flight (1 hour later) We simply sat in the secured arrivals area. The BA agent gave us a note so we could exit to call our transportation and let them know we arrived and to use the loos. We then came back into the secure baggage area, showed them our BA note and sat and waited for the bags. It all worked out just fine.

For our return, we did just the opposite, however, we had more time and had to go through the regular security line. One thing to note. You can do de-taxe at CDG...that is considered a %26#39;domestic%26#39; flight-w/i the EU, but you have, I presume, a US Passport. So actually CDG is your first flight out of a EU country. Others have told me they would have done it at LHR, but didn%26#39;t have the time. The de-taxe agent will ask you and just tell them this is the country wou are departing from. That is if you have anything to declare. Good luck.

The line at the security at the T4 will add time. Depends on the number of flights leaving at that time etc. Its just like going through security for the first time even though you are just transferring. It is a pain, and thats why we are going through Amsterdam this year!

|||

muffya, is Amsterdam easier? How?

|||

I had 30 minutes to change terminals and clear security, made it but had to hussle and asked to be in the short line, had to show ticket. No Problem

Thanks Gomac and everyone. Thanks for putting my mind a little more at ease.

Gomac, how was your experience flying with British Airways? I haven%26#39;t read good reviews from them? Can you please share?

This is our first year flying through amsterdam, but looking at the terminal layout, its a lot smaller and don%26#39;t have the bus thing to content with. We have connected through munich, heathrow mostly, but using KLM this year. (We%26#39;ve gone to europe every summer for the last 10 years) Mostly used BA as my parents go early with my brother and his family to another location in europe and then meet up with my family when my brother returns to the us, so we need an airline that my parents can fly in on with my brother, then meet us and then go home with us, and BA has been the best for connections and price. This year, we are using KLM as they are going to Garmish area first then on to Paris to meet us then home with us. They can%26#39;t use the train as they can%26#39;t get their luggage on and off the train without assistance, so they fly. KLM fit the bill and had the best flight time as we have to drive 3 hours to our gateway city-SFO. I also get to see my college roomate who lives in Rotterdam-she%26#39;s coming to the airport since we have a 3 hour layover!

We travel with our kids, so switching terminals is a pain and alot of walking after 10 hours of flying. (My son also has problems with the pressure in his ears and gets sick on descent everytime!)

We like BA because we upgrade to Economy Plus and my husband has a bit more room and we can get a 2-seat row. I don%26#39;t mind BA, nothing strikes me as unpleasant, other than that terminal/bus change.

In the US, BA Economy Plus can board before reg. economy. However at LHR or CDG, you board with the rest of economy, by row.
